The Woods Capital League side moved make to joint top of the table with an excellent revenge victory over Maidenhead United.

The Magpies had been the only side to win at Chestnut Avenue this season, and they fielded a similarly strong team with five players having first-team experience, including former Northwood winger James Hamsher.

Mark Barnham had a mainly young side but could call upon Danny Brown to boss midfield, and had a couple of triallists on show up front.

The Woods started quickly and were 2-0 up inside the opening ten minutes. Promising youngster Aryan Taj was the first to open the account after just five minutes when he scored with a rifled long-range effort from just over twenty yards.

Five minutes later, after a good build-up from the back, triallist Hugo Figueiredo bagged the second with a similar strike from the edge of the box and the reds continued to take the game to their hosts for much of the first-half.

As the game wore on, Maidenhead's experienced midfield began to get more of a grip on the game and, after a spell of pressure, they did pull a goal back before half-time. They also missed a one-on-one just before the break, with Northwood 'keeper Simon Dean narrowing his angle well.

In the second half, the Magpies continued to dominate but a switch of formation managed to have the desired effect of keeping chances down to a minimum and then, with fifteen minutes remaining, the Woods grabbed a third crucial goal. A cross came in from the flank and the home 'keeper made a hash of collecting, allowing Danny Brown to head home.

With three minutes remaining, Maidenhead narrowed the arrears once again but it was too late to salvage anything as the Woods held on comfortably.
